| you can only change what has been changed. Paradox style. since harry's parents were not saved by someone with a time turner, then you cannot go back and save them with one. they say it in the movie that bad things happen to wizards that mess with time. all they did while saving buck beak is fix a paradox that they caused.... by creating a paradox. |

| There are a lot of different books (and TV shows and movies) that deal with time travel. Personally, I tend to agree with the books that say that if you had time travel and do something in the past, you don't change anything in the future, because what you had done had already been changed by a time traveller (you). Harry Potter has that thinking. I don't tend to agree with the stories that claim if you travel to the past and change something, you change the future, because then that creates complications and alternative worlds, etc. |

| But what's wrong with an alternative world? It mah even be a happier world. I say we should just go back in time and destroy voldemort before he even has a chance. | ||

| Yeah, Moiraine, Egwene and Nynaeve especially. Though her birgitte is awesome too. Hadn't seen that, but in her "others" there's that one pic, won't be on a card or anything commercialised so it's not watermarked... ![]() Isn't Rand the lucky guy? :p |

| Well if nynave is busy co-ruling a newly minted Malkier with Lan, since after they close they bore the blight will retreat and malkier will be free once more, then rand need not worry. Although he will have his hands full with babies and wives galore. AHa. SO I guess she will still have the last laugh. =P | ||

| Just my 2 cents on the time travel thing. *gives a scholarly cough* according to the WOT, the Portal stones are doorways to possible worlds. Everything we could have done is a possibility. Using Harry potter as my reference (Keep in mind I have not read the books, so I'll have to use the movies for my knowledge). If harry went back in time and saved his parents, it wouldn't change the future, because I theorize that he wouldn't have the capable "presence" in a time where he was that young. I theorize that time itself would work to stop him from interfering directly. If he, on the other hand, worked to have someone who was a factoring player during that time save his parents instead, it would indeed alter his history. But not change it, because the future he would return too is already a possibility. This would imply, in my theory, that we can only change the past using what is already possible. Because it has indeed already happened within an alternate past/future. Now, of course we would have to argue on the paradox "if he alters the reason for his returning to the past, does it prevent him from returning to the past to alter it in the first place?" The answer should be no. If he goes back in time, saves his parents, thus eliminating the need for him to go back in time, current harry ceases to exist, and only this alternatives harry continues to exist. This harry having no recollections of anything the other harry ever did. This is dangerous though, because it eliminated an already pre-existing alternate future (And the most likely future too). which I believe would cause major disruptions within the time line, possibly even causing time itself to unravel, if done too much. Edit: When I say presence, it refers to ones lack of ability to move himself physically though time AND space, into a space where he does not actually exist. This means we would be limited to times where we already exist in the world. The younger we are, the less we are able to effect that world. It's a basis for all my time travel theories, and it made sense to me. |
