ya, I agree about catelyn tully. not how I pictured her... Danny is almost exactly the way I pictured her in my mind though Most of the other characters are pretty much spot on too (except Tyrion who I thought would be uglier)

| I'm not sure if we'll get it immediately on our version of HBO either...but the web is a wonderful place, and by hook or by crook I'll make sure I watch the episodes on the same week they are released. | ||

@ Demos: I can PM you a link that has EVERYTHING TV/movie on it on facebook. At least so I've been told; haven't had time to try it yet I'm the same as wolfbro. A Game of Thrones is sitting on my dresser, waiting for Mistborn to end.

| Maybe I'll see some episodes of one of HBO's other period series like 'Rome'. | ||

Rome was fantastic. Saw all of them. Too bad it got cancelled early. So what is Game of Thrones going to do when they reach the end of the books but aren't done with the series?

HEY the books aren't that bad. They are definitely an interesting read, the only issue I have is htat there are too many characters who die. But apart from that the books are very good. ya thanks for the link andoran

I think he's a perfect fit. both Ned Stark and Robert Barathaeon are just how I imagined they would look like.

I've never read Game of Thrones (assuming it's a book). It seems like an interesting show, though.

i sympathize with you demos, not having HBO sucks and josh, unlike you, i appreciate that people in the series actually die, unlike WOT which is too neat and clean where its not even possible to kill an important character(though WOT is still the better series)

magirl, "assuming its a book"? have you not heard of A Song Of Ice And Fire??? Its only the most famous modern fantasy epic around (after WOT of course)... hopefully The Stormlight Archive will rob it of that title in a few years!

| guy, I don't mind deaths of characters. (Indeed in WOT even the bad guys get resurrected), but killing off one of the main main characters just one book into the series, and then continuing to kill characters after that...not nice... | ||

Its only the most famous modern fantasy epic around I guess if you don't consider Harry Potter and Twilight or that Eragon series. If it's been made into a movie, it's probably more famous than A Song Of Ice And Fire. Even the "Sword of Truth" series by Terry Goodkind might be better known, but that's debatable...

A Song of Ice and Fire = 7 million books sold worldwide The Sword of Truth = 25 million sold worldwide To be fair, The Sword of Truth does have more books. I really liked the first 3 books of the Sword series but they kind of went down hill from there and I haven't read them all. The last three books (trilogy) are supposed to be pretty good so I might just skip ahead to them.

Brandon Sanderson's writing actually reminds me a lot of that Sword of Truth Series, especially what I've read so far of Mistborn. Terry Goodkind does seem to have borrowed some from Robert Jordan or at least had some of the same 'Dune' influences on his work. If you thought Rand being beaten and put into a box was disturbing than Goodkind's more intense torture and battle aftermath scenes are not for you.

well, maybe not most famous, I probably meant the best epic fantasy other than WOT out there at the moment. Harry Potter is not fantasy IMO, I don't know what Twilight is, and I lost interest in Eragon after the second book... Brandon Sanderson, Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind, Terry Pratchett (?) and Steven Erickson are the other good true fantasy authors around (that I know of). Haven't read Terry Goodkind or Steven Erickson, but GRRM beats Terry Goodkind and Terry Pratchett...Brandon still hasn't given us a true epic... Oh and recently started reading Naomi Novik (though not sure if that is fantasy...just having dragons is not enough IMO), and its pretty good too
